I like to write micropoetry on twitter, limiting myself to 140 characters (128 if you include the hashtag).
I collect my micro musings in a document with the aim of publishing a book of poetry (I’ve seen a review of a book of 140 twitter fictions so why not a book of micropoetry?)
But I shall share the more recent ones with you here.

First Date
an open packet of plain chips
(you prefer Salt and Vinegar)
we scrabble for the scraps
and lick the grease
from our fingers
Irony
In an act of irony
I draw trees on paper
And stick them
On my wall
An ecological conundrum
Where I can’t see
The forest for the trees
Unravelling and Resonating
The unravelling of each other
Pulling at threads of fault
Leaves only a mirror
To reflect and resonate
Our own insecurities
Trivial Dust
Death makes trivial objects
of us all; dust becoming dust
As I wipe my finger
Along the photo frame
My reflection echoes yours
Conscience
Hamlet declared
Conscience does make
cowards of us all
For we ultimately fear
What holds us back
When it should
Push us forward

Wow, these are really cool. My favourite one is “Irony”.
These are great, and I absolutely LOVE this idea! Very cool / inspiring.
Love the imagery in “First Date”
I thought “First Date” had great imagery. Very understated and raw.
Conscience for “…we ultimately fear what holds us back when it should push us forwards”.Very simple and true.
These are incredibly clever. So much said in so few words.
Brevity means every single word has to count. Less is more. Super idea.
I like “Irony”. What do you call this type of poetry?

These are all very clever and thoughtful poems. Great work!
I love teaching micro fiction and really enjoyed reading your poetry. I’m trying to get my creative writing class into blogging. Do you have any advice?
The important part is to focus on the moment you are writing about, to find it’s essence. That becomes the starting point. Then it’s the limitations of word count, character count or boundaries of the paper you are working on (I often write poems on Post It Notes, a forced brevity of word count). Most of all, experiment with language, word placement, order of words; trying to find the best words to capture the moment you want the reader to experience.
My poems focus on an event, a memory, an experience and I create a character or persona to tell the story. Other poems are based on an idea and then it is finding a way to express it.

I really liked the first one about the potato chips, really nice. That was really my favorite one out of all of them, although I liked some of the other ones too. I could really almost taste the salt and vinegar chips that are the other person’s favorite, even though they’re only having plain ones this time. I really like salt and vinegar chips too. 🙂

Irony was my favorite. I had never heard of micro poetry but your poetry gave me a new-found interest! I hate haiku! and just am generally a poetry snob. But your poems really stood out. Good work!

I, too, aspire toward minimalism. Trivial Dust works best for me here. Remembrance. Existentialism. Mortality. Life. All represented here. And the imagery is vivid.

These are interesting; almost like a postmodern version of haikus.
Conscience is especially drawing to me, especially since with the word Shakespeare meant what we call consciousness, but both that and conscious bring different perspectives to the text.
